30 Minute Video Lecture Series – “Jesus Interprets His Own Cross”  by Kenneth E. Bailey, ThD
It is not enough to say Christ died for our sins. We must also understand how his death is effective to influence our lives. This subject is called the Doctrine of the Atonement and usually we turn to Paul for the explanation we need.  The Christian Church has traditionally turned to the letters of St. Paul for an understanding of the Cross. It is Paul who recorded 'Christ died for our sins" (1 Cor 15:3). But did not Jesus have an understanding as to the significance of what he was doing when he made his final journey to Jerusalem? Or was his death an unexpected accident? This set of lectures starts with the metaphors for the Cross that appear in the New Testament and then reviews the servant songs in Isaiah.

Our God calls each of His people to practice hospitality.  Numerous portions of Scripture bear out this notion, but what does the Biblical virtue of hospitality really look like?  How and why are we supposed to be hospitable, and to whom?  Scripture and the movie Chocolat will provide us with discussion starters and Patti Porter will facilitate.
Join us in the Mercer Hall room at 9:00.  Chocolate will be present!
